We are doing a devotional from the Youversion Bible app: She Reads Truth: Prayer in the Bible.

I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time - waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God - it changes me.  - CS Lewis

What I learned from reading this devotional and the verses that went with it:
-Prayer is a method of communication with God, and it is a very important aspect of our relationship with him.
-Our prayers should reflect praise to God, we should be thanking him for all he provides us with.
-Psalm 8:1-9 is a psalm of praise to God, for everything he has done.
-So reading this devotional reminded me that I need to take time each day and thank God for everything, because each day is a gift, and we need to be thankful no matter what our circumstances are.

-Tiff

Prayer is a powerful tool in the hands of a Christian.  Sometimes I think that we forget, or maybe we ignore, how powerful it truly is.  Not only are we talking to the One we love, we are speaking to the One who holds the universe in his hands!  He is awesome!
When we pray, we are talking with our God.  When we talk with Him, we get to know Him.  When we get to know Him, we start to become more like Him, and that should be what we strive for every day of our lives.  We want to be more like Jesus and less like the world.
Psalm 8 is a psalm that David wrote about the awesome handiwork of God.  He speaks of how majestic God is, and how wonderful His creation is.  I love reading this psalm, and I love singing the song that was taken directly from it and turned into a popular Sunday School chorus.  I don't think we spend enough time praising God in our personal lives.  We tend to treat God as if He's our own personal genie, granting wishes and making sure our lives work out for the best.  If that is what our expectation of God is, we're going to become disillusioned pretty quickly.
A few months ago, I started a journal of praise and thanksgiving.  I wanted to dedicate a journal to simply praising God.  I started it, and for a while, I was pretty good about writing in all kinds of wonderful things that God has blessed the world, and specifically myself with, but then I let myself get distracted by the things I wanted.  I want to be amazed by God's everyday handiwork.  I want to see the little things that we tend to take for granted and see how wonderful and intricate they are.  I want to take the time to appreciate what God has done in my life everyday.
Our God is majestic, and this world is constantly showing off how awesome He truly is.  He created such beauty, and He lets us, mere creations, take care of it for Him and experience it everyday.  How wonderful and loving is our God!
